Child’s Play remake trailer re-introduces your friend Chucky

The trailer for the CHILD'S PLAY remake made its theatrical debut yesterday, attached to the creepy kid flick THE PRODIGY, and now the trailer has arrived online for those who don't mind watching it on a smaller screen.

I think most of us were probably hoping to get a good glimpse of the remake's version of iconic killer doll Chucky and maybe hear him say something – especially since we have no idea who is going to be providing his voice. Staying loyal to franchise writer Don Mancini, who was not involved with this film, Brad Dourif opted not to participate in the remake and will instead be voicing the original Chucky in his upcoming Syfy TV series. Unfortunately, you won't find those things in this trailer. The new Chucky is being kept in the dark for now.

Directed by Lars Klevberg from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith, the new version of CHILD'S PLAY stars Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke. Like the original film, it will tell the story of

a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith produced the remake, with Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson executive producing.

I don't agree with MGM moving forward with this remake while Mancini is trying to keep the original timeline going at Universal and Syfy, but we're getting a CHILD'S PLAY remake anyway. This trailer is a decent first preview of it. At least it doesn't look terrible.

The new CHILD'S PLAY is scheduled to get a theatrical release on June 21, 2019.
