Instead of being possessed by the soul of a serial killer, the Chucky doll in the upcoming CHILD'S PLAY remake is "an obsolete model of the bestselling Buddi doll with a glitch in his chip and the ability to control a vast network of interconnected devices." The remake's latest promotional featurette to be released online digs into that aspect of the character and the film, with stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, and Brian Tyree Henry discussing the fear of technology and the new Chucky's gradual descent into evil. Producers Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg also show up in the clip briefly.
That featurette is embedded below, along with a new poster for the film. This one is the French poster and shows a knife-wielding Chucky, a mischievous look on his face, lurking in a bedroom where someone is trying to get some sleep. What are you up to, Chucky?
The CHILD'S PLAY remake was directed by Lars Klevberg from a script by Tyler Burton Smith that keeps the basic set-up of the original film:
A mother gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.
Plaza, Bateman, and Henry are joined in the cast by Tim Matheson, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke, with Mark Hamill providing the voice of Chucky.
CHILD'S PLAY is being released by MGM subsidiary Orion Pictures through their United Artists Releasing banner on June 21st.
