Chevy Chase on whether he’d reunite with Steve Martin and Martin Short for Only Murders in the Building

Steve Martin and Martin Short forged a strong friendship after starring alongside each other in Three Amigos. The comedic duo has gone on the road with comedy tours, including A Night You’ll Forget for the Rest of Your Life and Now You See Them, Soon You Won’t. The two have recently collaborated on a critically acclaimed show for Hulu, Only Murders in the Building. Three Amigos would also feature the comedy stylings of Chevy Chase, and while he hasn’t stayed as close to Martin and Short as much, he is very much associated with the two through the John Landis comedy classic.

According to MovieWeb, Chase recently appeared on the podcast, WTF with Marc Maron. Chase would speak about his Amigos, “I love those two — very, very funny guys. They’re doing whatever they’re doing now. I hadn’t watched it [Only Murders in the Building] — maybe once, or so. They’re very successful, it’s a big success. I miss them. I mean, I wish I was doing it with them. They’re good, they’re great.” Then, Maron inquired if he would reach out to the duo for a reunion on their hit show, Chevy would dismiss the idea, “No — yeah, that’s great! [He laughs]. ‘I want on, I want in!’ Uh, no. No, no.”

Chase reminisced about his time on Three Amigos with Martin and Short on Maron’s podcast. He recalled, “I was very physical, and I wrote part of the movie here and there. I think that I had something to do with the singing bush.” He praised Martin Short’s performance in the singing bush scene, which also involved the presence of an invisible swordsman and Short’s interaction with him.

Maron was transparent about his nervousness in regards to interviewing Chase with the looming reputation of being difficult. Chase cut the tension early on when Maron asked if he’d like to wear the headphones during the podcast interview and Chevy jokingly replied, “Yeah, I’ll wear them. I like to hear my voice.” The SNL alum also spoke about his unhappiness while working on Community on the podcast. “Honestly, I felt the show wasn’t funny enough for me, ultimately…I felt a little bit constrained a bit…Everyone had their bits and stuff, I thought they were all good, but it just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me.” He would even indicate that it was such a minor point in his career, that he “kinda [forgets] about that.”
