I don’t watch Community. I gave it a go for the first few episodes and it just wasn’t taking. I like Joel McHale and most of the cast members, especially the sweet young ladies on the show, but the comedy was not taking. I’m over it. Don’t try to convince me. I know that lots of folks dig it and I’m cool with that. So, the news that Chevy Chase is leaving the show may or may not devastate you. If you’ve been following the news of his on-set tirades and clashes with series creator Dan Harmon, then you’ll know that his involvement in the sitcom has been anything but pleasant (although pleasantly entertaining).
It does me no good to report on Chase continuing down the spiral of his late-in-the-game work as I grew up loving his work and continue to enjoy his classics to this day. I wouldn’t be surprised if I pop in CHRISTMAS VACATION this weekend and soak in the golden years of the once-awesome comedian. However, it seems that Chase may not be totally in the wrong here, as many of his clashes were cleared by castmates who witnessed many of the events that caused his outburts, which culminated in Harmon saying, “F*ck you, Chevy” at the first season wrap party, prompting this lovely phone message from Chase to Harmon.
Apparently, Chase wasn’t thrilled with the show at all, telling the Huffington Post UK, “It was a big mistake! I just sort of hung around because I have three daughters and a wife, and I figured out I might as well make some bread, every week, so I can take care of them in the way they want … The hours are hideous, and it’s still a sitcom on television, which is probably the lowest form of television.”
I wonder if Chase carries around sticks of dynamite and a lighter for every bridge he crosses…
Chase has already filmed a large chunk of the episodes for the fourth season, which premieres on February 7, 2013.
