Check out Toby Jones in the first stills from the oddly titled Berberian Sound Studio

While I can definitely appreciate an original and unusual movie title, Peter Strickland’s BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO might have gone a little too far off the beaten path. Oh well, the important thing is that the film sports one hell of an intriguing premise and stars the one and only Toby Jones. You can scope out a bunch of moody images from the flick below. Here’s the synopsis:

Gilderoy (Jones), a reserved and modest British sound engineer, is hired by Italian director Santini (Mancino) to provide the score to his latest film. However, as Gilderoy immerses himself more and more in the work, he soon finds the macabre scenario having a truly nightmarish effect on his mind.

Apart from Jones, the movie’s cast includes Antonio Mancino, Cosimo Fusco and Tonia Sotiropoulou (below). The movie premiered to rave reviews at the Edinburgh Film Festival back in July. It’ll hit theaters in the UK at the end of August and will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
