As has traditionally been the case with all of Pixar’s films to date, TOY STORY 3 will have an animated short attached before it when it’s released in theaters this June. The short, called DAY & NIGHT, was revealed for the first time in a promotional title card back in March. It didn’t give us much to go on other than that the animation was to be 2D on top of being a somewhat stylistic throwback to stuff from the 60s. Here’s the official synopsis:
When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other’s unique qualities–and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world–the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.
See what I highlighted above? The animation of our main characters will in fact be 2D, but within them will be 3D imagery as can be seen in the new pic revealed today up above (which you can click to get a bigger look at over at Pixar Talk).
Seems cool, no? Knowing Pixar’s charming inventiveness (especially with their shorts), I can’t wait to see what they do here.
DAY & NIGHT can be seen in front of TOY STORY 3 which opens on June 18th.
