Check out these gorgeous new stills from Disney’s Maleficent

I’m kind of surprised that more people aren’t digging Disney’s MALEFICENT. Not sure what the deal is. Did they take too long to finally release it? Well, we have been talking about it since 2010. Production didn’t pick up steam until 2012 when they finally found a director to commit to the project. The script passed through Tim Burton, Guillermo del Toro, Darren Aronofsky, David O. Russell until it finally landed in the hands of Robert Stromberg. The first time director was nominated for Best Visual Effects for 2003s MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD, and finally won in 2011 for Best Art Direction in ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

The trailers
for the film have certainly been gorgeous. I don’t think one has to do much when Angelina Jolie is cast as MALEFICENT. It’s basically a role she was born to play. Just sit back and watch her chew up the scenery. Speaking of gorgeous, five new stills from the film have been released. Of course, most of them center on Jolie in the title role, but there’s a couple of Sleeping Beauty herself, Elle Fanning.

Check them out below.

Synopsis:

“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

MALEFICENT starring Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Brenton Twaites, and Juno Temple, and directed by Robert Stromberg will be released on May 30th, 2014.
