The trademarks are all there. MOONRISE KINGDOM looks very much like every other Wes Anderson movie and yet somehow looks all its own and very much like a movie to see in 2012. I can’t imagine, if you’re not a fan of Anderson’s particular aesthetic, that you’d all the sudden warm to MOONRISE, but if you at any time enjoyed a Wes Anderson film, I think you’ll enjoy this.
MOONRISE is Anderson’s first period film, taking place in 1965 New England, where two camp kids runaway to be love. This turns their small town upside-down as the adults (played by Ed Norton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton) attempt to track them down.
It’s all very cute and clever and Wes Anderson and, for me, that’s a good thing. I never tired of his schtick like some others did. Check the new trailer out below and see if it’s your thing.
