Both Bill Paxton and Laurence Fishburne stand as two of the best character actors working today. They’ve both dabbled in leading-man roles, but more often than not shine as the supporting actor in a bigger film (i.e. Fishburne in THE MATRIX, Paxton in ALIENS). They are two of the most reliable guys working and seeing their names in any cast list is always a bonus. So, putting the two actors together in the sci-fi snowpocalypse pic THE COLONY automatically earns the film some clout. I honestly hadn’t heard anything about this until I saw the trailer yesterday and it looks to be an impressive looking sci-fi jaunt. It looks well shot for a smaller budget pic with some solid effects work and an atmospheric feel.
Paxton and Fishburne star as two men living in a colony during a new ice age, who set off to help another colony when they receive a distress signal. It looks like your standard survival stuff, with a mysterious threat on the horizon, which can make for a good time at the movies.

Here’s the synopsis:
Forced underground by the next ice age, a struggling outpost of survivors must fight to preserve humanity against a threat even more savage than nature.
THE COLONY is slated to hit theaters on April 12, 2013.
