Check out the stunning first five minutes of How To Train Your Dragon 2

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON remains one of my all-time favorite animated movies and may be the best film from Dreamworks Animation to date. Something about the flying sequences and the creative dragon design mixed with a great voice cast and a big heart at the center of the movie makes it a great adventure for kids of all ages. That sounds cliche, but the movie just works on all levels. We already know that Dreamworks is developing multiple sequels in the franchise as well as the currently airing TV series, so we should expect a lot of Hiccup, Toothless, and the residents of Berk for years to come.

With HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2, the filmmakers decided to fast-forward several years to show us Hiccup and his friends in a much different place. Gone are the preteen Vikings and instead we get older characters exploring different moments in their life. Combine that with even better CGI than in the first film and we have what is destined to be a big winner this summer. Don’t believe me? Check out the first five minutes of the movie below.

It’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snotlout and the rest of the gang are challenging each other to dragon races (the island’s new favorite contact sport), the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Now, Hiccup and Toothless must unite to stand up for what they believe while recognizing that only together do they have the power to change the future of both men and dragons.

The humor and style of the film is consistent with the first movie but it just looks crisper and cleaner now that it did before. That and the promise of seeing an epic animated battle as teased in the full trailer for the movie and I can only imagine how good this flick will be. Joining the voice cast that included Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Gerard Butler, America Ferrara, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Craig Ferguson, and T.J. Miller are Cate Blanchett and Kit Harrington.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 flies into theaters on June 13, 2014.
