Check out the songs on the secret Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack

It is pretty clear that everything about GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is awesome. From the movie to the soundtrack, everything just clicks. A lot of that is thanks to director James Gunn who has been refreshingly revealing about the film’s production since before it hit theaters this summer. Now, as the film hits digital release, Gunn has shared another cool element of the film: an alternate soundtrack.

Teasing it as Awesome Mix Volume Zero, Gunn posted a brief story to his Facebook page about the so-called Boot of Jemiah mix, named after the bar on Knowhere the Guardians find themselves as they await The Collector.

On lighter days, our master soundman Simon Hayes would also play music on set between takes to keep people’s energy up. He did this while shooting the credit sequence in the Temple of Morag, and he also did it for the Boot of Jemiah, so we could keep the extras hyped and alive and feeling like they were in a bar atmosphere. Being that these were night shoots, it helped to keep people awake as well! Simon took requests for the credit scene, but for the Boot of Jemiah he asked me to put together an AWESOME playlist of high energy party tunes. So I did, featuring some of my favorite tunes.

Unlike the very 70s/80s rooted film soundtrack, this new mixtape is much more contemporary and high energy. It features a lot of bands that are not as easily recognizable to audiences as The Jackson 5 or Marvin Gaye, but they are nonetheless still pretty badass. Gunn shared the full listing below which you can see along with a fun mash-up of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY with the opening credits of the sitcom FRIENDS.
