Check out the main title theme from Star Trek: Discovery

The Star Trek TV franchise has a history of beautiful opening credit sequences complete with a rousing score (go sit in the corner, Star Trek: Enterprise), and it's gratifying to know that Star Trek: Discovery will be no different. With less than two weeks to go until the debut of the latest Star Trek series, it seems that we can't go a day without something Star Trek-related, and now CBS has given us the first preview of what will be Star Trek: Discovery's main title theme. The video, which includes an interview with composer Jeff Russo, finds the music beginning with a nod to Alexander Courage’s classic Original Series theme before launching into something new. Check it out.

The return to the Alexander Courage theme at the end feels slightly forced, but for the most part, I quite like what I'm hearing. In order to be sold entirely, I'll have to see what sort of visuals the theme will be paired up with. Taking place a decade before the events of The Original Series, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as Michael Burnham, a brilliant Starfleet first officer, as well as the first human educated on Vulcan, who's forced to make an impossibly difficult decision which impacts the entire Federation. Although I do have concerns about what type of series Star Trek: Discovery will be, I can't help but feel excited at the opportunity to dive into a brand-new Star Trek series. It's been far too long.

What are your thoughts of Discovery's theme, and which Star Trek main title theme is your favourite?

Star Trek: Discovery will debut on CBS on September 24, 2017 before moving to CBS All Access.
