When I first heard about Jim Jarmusch‘s vampire flick ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE, I was sold on the idea of Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton playing vampires.
What’s nice is that this is a vampire film for the adult audiences rather than the tween crowd thus making it more appealing. The trailer for the movie is heavily atmospheric. I’ve only heard fantastic things about Jarmusch’s “crypto-vampire love story” (his words). Take a look below.
“We’re going to have so much fun together.”
Synopsis:
After being around for centuries and now living in the modern age, vampire Adam (Tom Hiddleston) is a rockstar who cannot grow accustomed to the new modern world with all of its new technology. While he lives in Detroit, his wife Eve (Tilda Swinton) lives in Tangier, flourishing in the new world. But when she senses Adam’s depression with society, she gets on a plane and goes to see him. Shortly after Eve gets there, her little sister, Ava (Mia Wasikowska), shows up after 87 years and disrupts the couple’s idyll reunion.
Hiddleston’s character makes me think of Lestat from Anne Rice‘s vampire series as he’s a musician, however, Lestat wanted to be seen. I think musician is the ideal career choice of the undead, though. Actually any concentration in the arts would be sufficient. I do have a great love for vampire stories so it’s nice to see something worthy of checking out for a change.
Currently there is no set release date as of yet for ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE.
