It’s always a big deal anytime director Guillermo del Toro has a new film coming our way. He always puts out visually arresting films that, at the very least, make for interesting trailers and promotional material. The same can now be said for his newest film, THE SHAPE OF WATER, starring Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer and more. Watch the first trailer below, and just try not saying “What?” at the end.
Here is a plot synopsis:
From master story teller Guillermo del Toro comes THE SHAPE OF WATER, an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high security government laboratory where she works, lonely Ellisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Ellisa’s life changed forever when she and co-worker Zeida (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
The film looks gorgeous from a production value standpoint, and I can’t say I don’t want to see where this story goes. Plus, there's a great cast which also includes Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones as the creature. However, if any of you were thinking to yourselves, “Um…do her and Abe from HELLBOY get it on?” I can’t say I blame you. This is going to be a much talked about film just on that basis alone, and I feel like that makes it a must see. How…like, how does it work?
THE SHAPE OF WATER arrives December 8.
