The Walking Dead turned into such an enormous hit for AMC that work soon began on a spin-off series which would detail the first days of the zombie apocalypse which keep Rick Grimes so completely unhinged in the present day. The spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, centers around a recently engaged couple (Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis) and their collection of children as they attempt to survive and understand the mysterious undead plague which is quickly spreading throughout the city.
Fear the Walking Dead premieres this Sunday, but you can watch the first three minutes right now! What an amazing world!
While I know I'll definitely be tuning in to check out the series, I haven't been able to muster any great excitement for what we've seen so far; that said, three minutes in and we're already straight to some people-eating, you've got to like that. How many of you will be checking out Fear the Walking Dead this Sunday?
From AMC's press-release:
Living in the same universe as “The Walking Dead,” “Fear the Walking Dead” is a gritty drama that explores the onset of the undead apocalypse through the lens of a fractured family. Set in a city where people come to escape, shield secrets, and bury their pasts, a mysterious outbreak threatens to disrupt what little stability high school guidance counselor Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) and English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) have managed to assemble. The everyday pressure of blending two families while dealing with resentful, escapist, and strung out children takes a back seat when society begins to break down. A forced evolution, a necessary survival of the fittest takes hold, and our dysfunctional family must either reinvent themselves or embrace their darker histories.
Fear The Walking Dead's six-episode first season will premiere on August 23, 2015 with an extended 90 minute episode and the series has already been renewed for a fifteen-episode second season set to premiere sometime in 2016.
