Shirley Jackson's 1959 gothic horror novel "The Haunting of Hill House" has been adapted twice before, first in 1963 as the excellent and atmospheric THE HAUNTING and once more in 1999 as a CG-fueled remake which was critically panned, so I would imagine that Netflix must be hoping that their upcoming series based upon the novel will take after the first film. The series is described as a "modern reimagining" of the novel and will follow "a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past — some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House."
Netflix has released a handful of photos for the series, which you can check out below.
The Haunting of Hill House was created, directed, and executive-produced by Mike Flanagan (GERALD'S GAME), and will star Carla Gugino (Wayward Pines), Michiel Huisman (Game of Thrones), Timothy Hutton (American Crime), Elizabeth Reaser (Grey's Anatomy), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Emerald City), and Henry Thomas (OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL). The series will consist of ten episodes.
The Haunting of Hill House will debut on Netflix on October 12, 2018.
