It has been a few years since we last heard anything about the upcoming 3D CG-animated ANGRY BIRDS movie, but now we have an impressive voice cast lined up and the very first image. In 2016 we’re getting the ANGRY BIRDS movie based on the very popular game, which I must confess I’ve never even played a second of. I’ve seen kids go nuts with it and you can’t ignore the merchandise in every store you go to, but it just didn’t interest me. A movie however, featuring talking birds? I could live with that.

ANGRY BIRDS will feature the voices of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph and Peter Dinklage just to name a few. It marks the directorial debut of Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis with a script by Jon Vitti (THE SIMPSONS MOVIE). There isn’t a synopsis yet but if you‘re a gambler, you can bet on the plot involving some unhappy birds.

Sudeikis will play an angry character named Red; Gad is the speedy bird, Chuck; McBride is the volatile Bomb and Hader’s character says that he’s “joined the pork side” which points to the inclusion of Bad Piggies, another game you might be familiar with. Lastly, Rudolph is voicing Matilda and Dinklage will be the legendary Mighty Eagle.

Rovio, the company responsible for the game and movie also announced the supporting voice cast, which includes Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz, Hannibal Buress, Cristela Alonzo, Jillian Bell, Danielle Brooks, Romeo Santos and YouTube stars Smosh.

What do you think so far? Are you a fan of the game and are you looking forward to the movie?

ANGRY BIRDS will fly into theaters on July 1, 2016.
