Check out the David Fincher shot Gone Girl cover for EW featuring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike

Director David Fincher picked up the still camera to shoot Entertainment Weekly’s cover for their 2014 preview issue, which features a GONE GIRL set-up, complete with stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, making for a clever and cool image to help promote the upcoming thriller. His first feature film in three years, GONE GIRL is shaping up to be a mysterious and intriguing project, coupled with an interesting cast that includes Affleck, Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Patrick Fugit, Kim Dickens, Scoot McNairy, Emily Ratajkowski, and Missi Pyle.

Here’s the cover:

Here’s the rundown (from EW):

Gone Girl autopsies the marriage of Nick and Amy, two out-of-work magazine writers whose marital bliss turns toxic after they leave New York City for the Midwest. When Amy vanishes on their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick becomes the prime suspect in her murder — though, technically, it’s unclear if she actually has been murdered. Maybe she’s just been kidnapped? And maybe Nick had nothing to do with it?

Fincher has tackled book adaptations before, including the renowned FIGHT CLUB and the less-renowned THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, but the director says he’s learned his lesson on being “too beholden” to the source material. Given the nature of the characters in GONE GIRL (from the novel by Gillian Flynn), as well as the laundry list of shady ones that have populated all of his films, Fincher is unflinching in his choice of being “unconventional” in that regard, saying:

“I don’t know what ‘likable’ is. I know people who are doting parents, who give to charity, drive Priuses, all those things, who are insufferable a- -holes,” he says. “I like people who get s – – – done.”

GONE GIRL is set to hit theaters on October 3, 2014.
