Production on the much-anticipated WONDER WOMAN 1984 has now begun which will bring Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) all the way to the 80s, although I'm sure you could have guessed that from the title. Patty Jenkins has returned to helm the sequel, which will also, surprisingly, star Chris Pine as Steve Trevor. How will they be explaining that one? Also appearing in the film is Kristen Wiig, who will be playing the villain Cheetah, and Patty Jenkins shared our first official look at the character on Twitter.

Her comic-book origins are varied, and more than one individual has carried the mantle of Cheetah, but Barbara Ann Minerva was a British anthropologist who found herself cursed with the powers of a cheetah and became obsessed with learning the secrets of the Amazons. Patty Jenkins has previously said that the sequel will strive to hit a perfect balance between what people loved about the first film, while also "being a completely different story that tackles something very different but very similarly singular. One story." Jenkins had also teased that WONDER WOMAN 1984 will be a "great love story," which was a little confusing at the time given the fate of Steve Trevor in the first film, but is much more understandable now that we know he will somehow find his way into the 80s. Any guesses on how he'll make his miraculous resurrection?
WONDER WOMAN 1984 will hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
