Check out John Boyega and giant robots in new Pacific Rim Uprising images

If STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI didn't quite quench your thirst for John Boyega action, then fret not, for the actor will be returning to the big-screen very soon with PACIFIC RIM UPRISING, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's colourful and extremely entertaining original. In UPRISING, John Boyega plays Jake Pentecost, son of the legendary Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) who gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the Kaiju. With the release of PACIFIC RIM UPRISING mere months away, I would hope that we're about to see a larger marketing push for the sequel, especially as THE LAST JEDI has been out for over a month now. Giant robots. Giant monsters. I'm game.

Total Film has released several new images from PACIFIC RIM UPRISING, and while it's not a new trailer, I suppose it will have to do…for now.

The first photo finds John Boyega standing alongside Amara, a computer expert played by Cailee Spaeny, while the second finds Boyega doing a little exploring. The third is the most interesting, as it features two Jaeger's facing off, teasing some of the Jaeger on Jaeger action we saw in the first trailer for PACIFIC RIM UPRISING. When asked how the newly designed Jaeger pilot suit compared to his Stormtrooper gear from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Boyega laughed, saying, "Oh, it's the worst thing. It's just… oh my gosh, it hugs on to you, it really does. I think I preferred the stormtrooper [costume], which is crazy. Maybe I don't. Actually, you know what, maybe I don't. At least I'm flexible in this!"

The official synopsis for PACIFIC RIM UPRISING:

John Boyega stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.

PACIFIC RIM UPRISING will hit theaters on March 23, 2018.
