The saga of Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his pursuit of the Infinity Stones came to a conclusion with AVENGERS: ENDGAME, but the Mad Titan has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a number of years. Thanos first appeared in a post-credit scene in THE AVENGERS back in 2012, where, after the failed attack on Earth, he was informed by The Other (Alexis Denisof) that to further challenge the humans would be to court death, to which Thanos merely smiles in response.
Unlike the Thanos seen in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, and AVENGERS: ENDGAME, who was brought to life by motion-capture, the Thanos seen in THE AVENGERS was realized via prosthetics and full-costume. Ironhead Studio, an effects firm specializing in costume and creature design, were the ones to create Thanos for the Joss Whedon film, and they recently took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes photos which give us a better look at the original Thanos played by Damion Poitier.
Here's a look back to 2011 at some behind the scenes photos capturing Thanos from the set of The Avengers. Jose designed and sculpted the makeup as well as his helmet and armor. The makeup appliances were painted and applied to Damion Poitier by Thom Floutz.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME is now available on Digital as well as DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD.
