A slew of media from writer/director Brandon Cronenberg’s ANTIVIRAL has infected its way online today, all of which is likely to creep you right the f*ck out. I guess you’d have to kind of expect this type of work from the offspring of an auteur like David Cronenberg, but rarely does it feel so on point. If this had David’s name on it I wouldn’t have second guessed it for a second.
ANTIVIRAL seeks to examine the obsession of rabid fans and how far they’ll go to experience the lives of the celebrities they so admire. Even if it means suffering their afflictions. Starring Caleb Landry Jones, Sarah Gadon, and Malcolm McDowell, the pic looks every bit as creepy as the elderly Cronenberg, which may or may not be a good thing.

Here’s a synopsis:
Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion – for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.
ANTIVIRAL premieres next month at TIFF, with a release date to follow shortly after. Stay tuned.
