Disney has gotten into the lovely habit of releasing fantastic short films ahead of their features, some of which rival their feature-length counterparts. Case in point being PAPERMAN, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Short, that was screened before WRECK-IT RALPH. Now the animation supervisor of that short, Patrick Osborne, is making his directorial debut with FEAST. FEAST tells the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share.

I'm really diggin' the use of hand-drawn animation mixed with computer animation. The two working hand-in-hand to create a fluid and aesthetically pleasing 2D image that really pushes this short and PAPERMAN into another category. At least, on a visual level. One wonders if Disney will venture into 2D animation again, although looking at the numbers WRECK-IT RALPH and FROZEN are bringing in, it's not likely to be anytime soon. In any event, we'll have what looks to be another sweet short on our hands come next month.
You can catch FEAST in front of BIG HERO 6, which will hit theaters on November 7.
