I’ve heard a lot of people bash on Charlize Theron. I even had a girlfriend who had some very unkind words for Miss Theron. And I defended her, and will continue to defend her, not because she’s hot (she is) or because I think she’s a fantastic actor (she’s not the best ever, but she’s decent depending on the role). No, I will “throw down for Theron” because of her role as Rita Leeds in Arrested Development. No, not the Olympian, you’re thinking of this man.
THR has news that Charlize Theron is joining Seth MacFarlane‘s western comedy A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST. The plot is described as a “Blazing Saddles-style comedy that follows a sheepish farmer who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend leave him. When he meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot, the farmer at first sees a chance to win back his love but slowly falls for the woman. Complications ensue when the outlaw returns and reclaims his woman.” Although which roles they would be playing has not been confirmed you’d have to assume Charlize Theron would be playing the wife of the outlaw, and Seth MacFarlane would be the farmer. Seth MacFarlane is both writing and directing, same as TED.
When a director’s movie makes the kind of money TED has, they tend to get a free pass from studios for their next film. Think Christopher Nolan‘s INCEPTION coming after THE DARK KNIGHT. I wonder if Seth MacFarlane‘s follow up is one of those passion projects that he’s always wanted to do but has never had the chance. Any western comedy will almost always (unfairly) be compared to BLAZING SADDLES, but let’s hope Seth MacFarlane can deliver the goods. For some reason though all I can think of is CASA DE MI PADRE…and I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.
A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST is looking to start production in May.
