Charlie Day in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim

FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is one of those shows I’ve always been meaning to dive into. The little I’ve watched has been hilarious, and friends I have just won’t shut up about how good it can be. (Yes, I’ll do it already! Jesus!) But one element that’s always stood out in the best way possible – even to a non-seasoned viewer like myself – has been funnyman Charlie Day.

And now according to Variety, Day has entered talks to join director Guillermo del Toro’s robots vs. monsters epic PACIFIC RIM as some sort of professor. No further elaboration on the part has been given, but this would mean that Day is either playing against type or the doc will be used as comic relief. Probably the latter.

Del Toro’s film, a project he quickly switched to after his much-anticipated AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS went into turnaround, “involves mega-sized creatures that emerge from an underwater dimensional hole in the Pacific. Several affected countries team up to combat the threat with huge mechanized units, each of which require a pair of specially trained pilots.”

PACIFIC RIM is expected to begin production this fall. Day, meanwhile, will next be seen in the comedy HORRIBLE BOSSES opposite Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, and Colin Farrell.
