Ever since yesterday when it was confirmed that Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Dr. Otto Octavius for Spider-Man 3 it feels as if the floodgates have been opened for everyone to join Jon Watts's highly-anticipated superhero sequel. Now it's being reported by Murphy's Multiverse that Charlie Cox is poised to appear in the upcoming film as his fan-favorite character Matt Murdock / Daredevil, from the acclaimed Marvel Netflix series. Then, without citing any sources, Murphy's Multiverse stated that Cox's deal to appear in Spider-Man 3 has been iron clad for several months now.
Shortly after fans learned about Molina's involvement, Collider released a report stating that Andrew Garfield will be back and that Sony/Marvel are negotiating for Tobey Maguire to appear as well. Additionally, Kirsten Dunst will be back as Mary Jane, and it's expected that Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy again as well. If this feels like a lot to you, it's because it definitely is. At some point, you have to wonder if this film is getting too big for its spider-sac-hugging bodysuit.
For a moment, let's assume that the Daredevil news is true. How do you think the character will make his way into the film? Could Matt Murdock enter the picture as Peter Parker's lawyer, there to defend him after Mysterio exposed Spider-Man's true identity at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home? Will Spider-Man and Daredevil team up to beat back the effects of an out-of-control multiverse? Part of me wonders how strong Matt's bullshit sensor is when I think about this stuff, but the comic book nerd in me can't help but fantasize about the possibilities. For the record, I don't believe this rumor for a second, though stranger things have happened, especially when the Multiverse is involved.
What do you think about this rumor? Will Daredevil make an appearance in Spider-Man 3 or are people just shooting webs at walls to see what sticks? Is Spider-Man 3 even the right project to herald Daredevil's induction into the MCU? Let us know your thoughts and feelings in the comments section.
