If you saw Spider-Man: No Way Home during its first two or three weekends of release, the crowd reactions to the various cameos and returns in the film were insane. I can still hear the deafening sounds of cheers when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire returned as Peter Parker/Spider-Man but another cameo that had my theater roaring was Charlie Cox’s appearance as Matt Murdock. Cox’s cameo indicated that the man also known as Daredevil was being resurrected from the canceled Netflix Marvel series and it served as a true fan favorite moment. I’m guessing Charlie Cox didn’t see the film on opening weekend because he is sadly recalling the “dead quiet” reaction he had when he saw the film in a movie theater with an audience for the first time.
While promoting the premiere of his new crime drama Kin, in which he plays a former gang member in a crime-driven family in Dublin, the actor admitted to RadioTimes.com witnessing a lack of reaction firsthand. What made the moment so discouraging for Cox was that he had his wife ready to film his reaction only to be greeted with “tumbleweeds.”
“It’s funny, I got so many text messages and so many calls about that moment in the cinema. My nephew sent me a recording of everyone cheering. So I snuck into a movie theater near where I live and literally stood in the corridor…and, sadly, my experience was it was dead f**king quiet! I was so disappointed – my wife was with me and she was recording me, because it’d be fun to have that moment of cheering, and then…tumbleweed!”
Don’t worry Charlie, I’ve also seen several clips of your cameo from different moviegoers and your appearance definitely had the crowd cheering. Your return was Matt Murdock was highly anticipated and we fans are thrilled to have you in the MCU. Maybe should’ve seen the film on opening night though. I’m sure you would’ve gotten the reaction you wanted to chronicle for the rest of your life.
You’ll be able to enjoy the biggest movie of 2021 at home very soon. It has been announced that Spider-Man: No Way Home will arrive at home via Vudu on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, and on Blu-ray and 4K UHD on April 12, 2022. The Blu-ray and 4k UHD release will feature over 80 minutes of bonus features and hopefully, Charlie Cox’s cameo will be explored further in some of the bonus content.
