We've waited this long for Chaos Walking, I guess we can wait a little longer. The Tom Holland & Daily Ridley sci-fi effort was originally set to open on January 22, 2021, but Lionsgate has decided to shift the release date to March.
Chaos Walking will now open on March 5, 2021, where it will debut in theaters and in IMAX. The news of the release date change was revealed in a new clip from the film that seems to feature the first time the characters played by Holland and Ridley meet. Directed by Doug Liman, Chaos Walking is based on the 2008 novel "The Knife of Never Letting Go" by Patrick Ness, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Christopher Ford. In the film, on a colony called the New World, Todd Hewitt (Holland) has been brought up to believe that a pathogen has killed all women and unleashed the Noise, the ability to hear people's and animals' minds. Later, he comes upon a patch of silence and soon discovers the source of the silence: a mysterious woman named Viola Eade (Ridley) – the first he has ever met. As he is hunted down by the fanatical Mayor Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen), the pair discover the secret history of their world. The film also stars Demian Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, Nick. Jonas, and David Oyelowo.
After Chaos Walking wrapped shooting in 2017, it was reported that the film was scheduled to have several weeks of reshoots in late 2018 or early 2019 due to poor test screenings. Ridley's commitment to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Holland's to Spider-Man: Far From Home didn't allow those reshoots to actually happen until April 2019. The reshoots, which were actually directed by Fede Alvarez, took place in Atlanta and lasted through May. They also added another $15 million to the film's budget, bringing it to $100 million. Chaos Walking will now hit screens on March 5, 2021, after a previously scheduled release date of March 1, 2019, which was scrapped due to the necessary reshoots.
Sounds like this film has had its fair share of problems. Do YOU think the movie will overcome them?
