You have come a long way from STEP UP 2 THE STREETS Channing Tatum, a very long way. On the verge of a possible Oscar nomination thanks to a brilliant performance in FOXCATCHER, the actor/producer is now looking towards directing for a career choice. He's set to co-direct an adaptation of author Matthew Quick’s (“Silver Linings Playbook”) YA book "Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock" for The Weinstein Company. His producing partner Reid Carolin will co-direct the project and they’re currently looking for a writer to take on the dark tale.
Published in 2013, Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock centers on a troubled teen that brings a gun to school with plans to shoot his best friend and then himself. But first, he spends the day saying his goodbyes to the people who matter most to him.
If Tatum signs on to star as well, he will play a caring teacher who steps to intervene. An adaptation of the book has said to have been in development for years, with THE SPECTACULAR NOW director James Ponsoldt writing a previous adaptation. All signs point to yes with this one; a great story and some strong talent backing it should make for a worthy project. Tatum’s streak just keep on coming as he recently signed on to star in the next film from the Coen Brothers, HAIL, CAESAR! He is also attached to the X-Men spinoff GAMBIT. Dude, slow down. You're making us look bad.
Has anyone read the book and what are your thoughts on an adaptation?
