I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone in saying that I really warmed up to Channing Tatum after seeing 21 JUMP STREET. I respect any actor who's willing to poke fun at themselves, and since then I've been enjoing the great Chatum in everything from comedies to Soderbergh dramas. With MAGIC MIKE XXL on the horizon, Tatum took to reddit to answer some questions about that film, his upcoming X-MEN ventures and how to create the perfect sandwich. Tread lightly as there is some serious charm ahead!
Channing Tatum on his favorite TV shows and if any character embodies him:
It's really hard to not want to be Joffrey on Game of Thrones. My favorite thing that I've seen yet wasn't on tv, it was on Youtube. It was called Kung Fury and it was the best thing I've seen in a long time.
Regarding who will enjoy MAGIC MIKE XXL and whether or not he does full-frontal for it:
The funny thing about XXL it is such a movie that is made for women but if I pitched the movie like it's the movie ROAD TRIP then guys would see it. Truly it's just about a bunch of guys being friends and hanging out who just get raunchy with some women at the end of the movie. Everyone will have fun with this movie.
I do not do full frontal but i can promise you when you're standing in front of a bunch of people in a very small thong it doesn't leave a lot to the imagination.
Tatum on the GAMBIT movie and If he'll be in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE:
We finally found someone that I really do believe wants to make GAMBIT, it will be the second standalone character. And i just really think because Gambit is not the most popular or the biggest hero, I think there's a really unique opportunity. Marvel's done a lot of great movies that have made a ridiculous amount of money, and it's always good to figure how to change the form.
[In regards to X-MEN: APOCALYPSE] I definitely will not.
Regarding the last picture he took with his phone:
The last picture I took on my phone I was going into a meeting and there was a tv on the wall playing CNN and they were talking about JURASSIC WORLD shattering box office openings so I sent that to my buddy Pratt. I'm just really proud of him, happy for him. It also said something about southeast Texas weather pressure.
That's what I was really trying to tell Pratt, to make sure he was aware of a pressure front coming in.
Channing Tatum on the perfect sandwich:
K get ready: it's very complicated.
Bread, white. peanut butter, not crunchy, creamy. grape jelly, double portion, more than you think should actually fit on a piece of white bread. bread. and then some Cheetos shoved in there, and then you're good to go.
About a month ago, a supposed "leaked" casting call stated that Channing Tatum WOULD play a role in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Giving him a cameo would make sense, especially since they're attempting to launch a stand-alone movie with the character. That was either a false report, or Tater is not going to reveal anything before APOCALYPSE hits theaters.
X-talk aside, the man obviously has fun with what he does, and you can check out the full AMA here for more Tatum talk. His semi-autobiographical MAGIC MIKE is actually one of my favorite roles that I've seen him in, so I'm curious if to see if XXL is just aiming to have fun with the premise, or looks to inject some drama into the proceedings, much like the first. We'll know in 2 weeks' time!
You can check out Channing Tatum next in MAGIC MIKE XXL which hits on July 1, 2015, with the (as of now) Tatum-less X-MEN: APOCALYPSE being released on May 27, 2016.
