Channing Tatum, Phil Lord & Chris Miller reteam for Universal Monster movie

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will soon be turning their attentions to the Universal Monsters, and Deadline has revealed that they'll be bringing Channing Tatum along for the ride. The outlet reported that Lord and Miller are developing a film for Universal that has been described as a "modern day, tongue in cheek thriller inspired by Universal's classic monster legacy." Beyond that, plot details are being kept under wraps, but Channing Tatum will be starring in the film.

The untitled film sprung from an original idea by Reid Carolin (MAGIC MIKE), who also wrote the treatment, but Wes Tooke (MIDWAY) will be stepping in to pen the screenplay based on that treatment. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will produce the film, but it's not yet clear who will be sitting in the director's chair. Following the disastrous launch of the Dark Universe franchise with Tom Cruise's THE MUMMY in 2017, Universal thankfully bounced back and found great success with THE INVISIBLE MAN. This has led to the development of quite a number of classic monster movies, including a WOLF MAN movie directed by Leigh Whannell starring Ryan Gosling, THE INVISIBLE WOMAN starring and directed by Elizabeth Banks, a DRACULA movie directed by Karyn Kusama, and more. Considering the projects that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller typically attach themselves to, it will be interesting to see just how the pair intend to put their touch on the Universal Monsters. Perhaps modern-day audiences need their own ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN?
