With a poster that was right on the…nose…hitting yesterday, today sees the release of the trailer for Channing Tatum's pseudo-biographical stripper series, MAGIC MIKE XXL. The story picks up three years after the first film, when Mike stepped away from the stripper life at the top of his game. The sequel finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel, but they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them.
Don't you hate it when you're finalizing a project in the work shed and just have to take a couple of minutes to bust out into a choreographed dance? I surprisingly found a lot to like in Steven Soderbergh's original film and the fact that he served not only as Executive Producer but also Director of Photography on this film gives me high hopes. Thanks to 21 JUMP STREET, the door to the Tatum room of entertainment has been busted wide open, and I enjoy most of the roles he's picking up these days. I don't know if MAGIC MIKE XXL will carry with it the same potent message as the first, but at the very least it looks to be wildly entertaining.
MAGIC MIKE XXL hits theaters on July 1, 2015.
