Disney Studios has set Bloom Li (Hombre, Into the Dark) as the lead of its new basketball feature Chang Can Dunk. Directed and written by Jingyi Shao, Chang Can Dunk centers on a 16-year old, constantly marginalized, not-popular high school kid, and wannabe basketball player, Chang, who becomes obsessed with the idea of learning to dunk, all to best the school’s basketball star, Matt, and, hopefully, win the adoration of the very pretty Kristy.
The feature is intended to play ball on Disney+, with Rishi Rajani, Brad Weston, Negin Salmasi producing.
As it turns out, Li played basketball when he was a kid and in high school on the street of New Jersey. He’s the youngest of three children born to parents of Chinese descent. When it comes to acting, had a recurring role on Awesomeness TV’s My Dead Ex and appearances on CBS’ S.W.A.T. He also played Phil on Hulu’s Into the Dark, a horror anthology series with each episode inspired by a holiday. He’s currently filming a TV series called EyeContact, and will soon star in the role of David for Chance Calloway’s Shenanigans.
Hopefully, this is just another step in Li’s journey toward playing ball with other studios for more exciting roles.
