From Jackie Robinson to James Brown, Chadwick Boseman is tearing it up playing well-known figures of history. Before long, he'll take on what will undoubtedly be one of his most famous characters of the fictitious variety; Black Panther. While our first glimpse of the titular Panther won't be seen until CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR in 2016, Boseman is doing his homework while Marvel irons out the details. Boseman recently spoke up about taking on BLACK PANTHER and if anything is evident, the man is going to give it his all.
Regarding Boseman's familiarity with Black Panther:
I wasn’t, like, a fanatic. I definitely read comic books, but this particular character was not someone that I knew very well until the last 10 years or so. I’d heard of him, but I hadn’t really been like I’m a huge Black Panther fan. I think once you get into the film business, though, you start thinking about things that would be really cool to do, and then I fell in love with [the character]. For me, that’s going to be the case for most people who watch it, for most people who see this character emerge inside the Marvel world. And it’s the right time for it, at the end of the day. It’s the right time for the character to emerge and to have his own life, so I’m really, really excited for it. And I just feel it can be done the right way right now.
With the success of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and hopefully ANT-MAN, Marvel is willing to venture out into some of the characters that a lot of the film-going public doesn't know about. As long as they keep hiring fantastic actors to fulfill these roles, the world of comic book cinema is just going to get more varied with the types of characters and stories we're going to see. Sounds great to me!
The character of Black Panther will be introduced in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR on May 6, 2016 before appearing in BLACK PANTHER on November 3, 2017.
