The Resident Evil franchise will be out in full force this fall, with RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION on September 14th, the game Resident Evil 6 on November 20th, and now an animated sequel to 2008’s RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION titled RESIDENT EVIL: DAMNATION sandwiched between them.
In what sounds like a bit of a riff on the stellar Resident Evil 4, RESIDENT EVIL: DAMNATION tells the tale of how “United States Special agent Leon S. Kennedy sneaks into a small Eastern Europe country to verify rumors that Bio Organic Weapons (B.O.W.s) are being used in war. Right after his infiltration, the US government orders him to leave immediately. Determined to uncover the truth, Leon ignores the order and enters the battlefield to end the chain of tragedies caused by the B.O.W.s.” Boy does that acronym make the end of that sentence look strange. But maybe this movie can show the live-action movies a bit about what Resident Evil really means, as the tone of the 4th game is definitely the way this franchise should go if it ever has the opportunity to be rebooted. I’d back that shit in a New York minute.
The CGI sequel was directed by Makoto Kamiya (RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION), written by Shotaro Suga (RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION, “Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex”) and produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi (the live-action RESIDENT EVILs, RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION), as well as featuring the vocal talents of Matthew Mercer as Leon S. Kennedy, Courtenay Taylor as Ada Wong, and Salli Saffioti as Ingrid Hunnigan.
