CBS’s Supergirl series has been officially picked up

Are you ready for another superhero to take on the small screen? Deadline reports that Supergirl, a new series from Greg Berlanti, has been officially picked up to series over at CBS. Personally I'd rather see another police-procedural about two cops who don't get along but can get the job done when the shit hits the fan. Now that's original TV!

Supergirl centers on Kara Zor-El (that's Supergirl to you bub) who escaped the destruction of Krypton and has been hiding her powers on Earth since she arrived years ago; however the time has finally come for her to be the hero she was always meant to be and Kara begins to embrace her superhuman abilities. Melissa Benoist landed the title role with Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw rounding out the main cast. Original Supergirl Helen Slater will also be making an appearance as will Dean Cain.

The Supergirl pilot has been completed and apparently has been receiving some solid reviews. Co-creator and executive-producer Greg Berlanti is also behind The CW's Arrow and The Flash so if those early reviews are any indication, it's likely that he'll be have another success with Supergirl. No word on when the show will premiere but that information should come next Wednesday when CBS unveils their full schedule at their annual upfront presentation.
