CBC responds to cutting Trump cameo from Christmas airing of Home Alone 2

Earlier this month, countless Twitter users came out in support of director Raja Gosnell's HOME ALONE 3, which stars Alex D. Linz as Alex Pruitt, a nine-year-old Bostonian who must fend off international spies who seek a top-secret chip in his toy car. The 1997 sequel is of course a follow-up to HOME ALONE and HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK, both of which star Macaulay Culkin as would-be Jigsaw killer Kevin McCallister. While both HOME ALONE and its New York City-centric sequel are considered by many to be holiday classics, HOME ALONE 3 (as well as other films in the franchise) had been banished to the Wal-Mart bargain bin shortly after its home release. While it remains a wonder that HOME ALONE 3 arrived as a hot talking point earlier this month, it's now HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK that has Twitter users all aflutter this post-Christmas afternoon.

According to recent reports, Donald Trump's cameo in HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK was cut from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) airing of the film on Christmas day. Naturally, the omission of Trump's part in the film didn't go unnoticed by those tuning in, and now many are locked in a rancorous debate as to whether or not the absence of Trump is due to the company's political leanings.

When asked to comment about the change, CBC told Comicbook.com the following: "As is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format,”

Before long, many gathered to support or shame the network for their alteration of the family-favorite film. In fact, so many people had something to say about the Trump-related topic that the "discussion" quickly became the #1 trending talking point across Canadian Twitter. In seeing the multitude of reactions, CBC tweeted an official response to the matter:

Funnily enough, depending on how you look at it, Trump recently praised HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK as being "one of the biggest holiday hits" of all time. The story here goes that during a video conference call to U.S. troops overseas on Christmas Eve, Trump was asked to share his favorite holiday movie. The forever-humble and recently impeached political figure then responded "Well I’m in Home Alone 2," Trump then added, “A lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas. They say – especially young kids – they say, ‘I just saw you on the movie.’ They don’t see me on television as they do in the movie. But it’s been a good movie and I was a little bit younger, to put it mildly. And it was an honor to do it. ”
