Cate Blanchett joins Bradley Cooper in Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Guillermo del Toro and Fox Searchlight’s adaptation of NIGHTMARE ALLEY is all set to begin shooting at the beginning of 2020. The flick has already snagged Bradley Cooper as it's lead. And today we have word via Variety that THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS and THE LORD OF THE RINGS actress Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Cooper in Del Toro's new movie.

Bradley Cooper takes over the lead role that was once set to go to THE WOLF OF WALL STREET and ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD actor Leonardo DiCaprio. Based on William Lindsay Gresham's novel of the same name, the film follows:

An ambitious young con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist who is even more corrupt than he is. At first, they enjoy success fleecing people with their mentalist act, but then she turns the tables on him, out-manipulating the manipulator.

While NIGHTMARE ALLEY is the first film Del Toro has directed since snagging an Oscar for his work on THE SHAPE OF WATER, the HELLBOY director has been keeping busy as a producer. His upcoming movies include Scott Cooper's ANTLERS starring Keri Russell and Jesse Plemons, and André Øvredal's SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK which is all set to bring the PG-13 horror to a movie theater near you later this month.

Del Toro will direct NIGHTMARE ALLEY from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Kim Morgan. On top of writing and directing NIGHTMARE ALLEY, Del Toro is also the film's producer along with J. Miles Dale. Once again, Guillermo del Toro and Fox Searchlight’s adaptation of NIGHTMARE ALLEY is all set to begin shooting at the beginning of 2020. Stay tuned to AITH and we will make sure to pass along further word as we hear it!
