Catch the first bite-sized teaser for Alexander Payne’s Downsizing

After delivering what was his most minimalist movie yet in NEBRASKA, director/writer Alexander Payne is bringing us his most high-concept film yet in DOWNSIZING. Starring Matt Damon, Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, Jason Sudeikis, Alec Baldwin and Neil Patrick Harris, the film imagines a world where, in order to solve overpopulation, scientists have engineered a way to shrink people to five-inches tall, placing them in a miniature community. You can watch the first teaser above, but don’t expect to get any juicy details from it, as the teaser embraces the idea of "short" all too well.

Payne is one of the directors who, in my opinion, has yet to make a bad movie. Everything from ELECTION to NEBRASKA is an expert blend of humor and pathos, and the fact he's doing this sci-fi-drama-comedy has me more than intrigued. Surely it's his most ambitious effort, and I hope it pays off for him. His record speaks for itself, so right now I say the odds are ever in his favor.

DOWNSIZING is set for December 22.
