Got quite a few casting announcements today, so I put together a nice little one-stop round-up to capture it all. First up is Kevin Costner, who has been making a solid climb back to the top after hanging back out of the trenches for a long while, with projects like MAN OF STEEL and JACK RYAN on the slate for this year, the actor is lining up a number of high-profile pics to follow. The Oscar winner recently wrapped McG's THREE DAYS TO KILL and is currently filming Ivan Reitman's DRAFT DAY alongside co-stars Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, Frank Langella, and Terry Crews. Now, the actor is signed to return to the big screen for director Mike Binder in BLACK AND WHITE, in which he "plays a grandfather, widowed after the car crash death of his wife, who has raised his own bi-racial granddaughter since his daughter died in childbirth. The child’s paternal grandmother surfaces to wage a custody battle over the little girl, and the thrust becomes about race and where she should grow up." The duo previously worked on the excellent pic THE UPSIDE OF ANGER in 2005.
Next up is Colin Firth, who earlier today was announced as taking the role of Uncle Jack in Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of THE SECRET SERVICE, and is now in the running to lead Woody Allen's next project, co-starring the lovely Emma Stone. No details on the pic yet, but you can rest assured there will be nervous chatter abound, for which Firth is a wonderful fit.
AVATAR lead man Sam Worthington, who has had a rough go when not employed by James Cameron, is slated to tackle THE KEEPING ROOM from HARRY BROWN director Daniel Barber. The story is "set in the dying days of the Civil War, Worthington plays a soldier who has broken off from the fast-approaching Union Army and encounters women who have been left to fend for themselves." Worthington recently wrapped David Ayers TEN, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Lastly, we have a rumored involvement, as it appears that the discussions of Tom Hiddleston as THE CROW may have been exaggerated if the latest rumblings dispelling his involvement (as well as Alex Pettyfor's vie for 50 SHADES OF GREY) are true. This has prompted a new rumor, involving True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard as the new possibility, since the actor's schedule recently opened up after David Yates' TARZAN was shelved and he characteristically fits the profile. I could certainly see it, but Hiddleston would've been an inspired choice. Nothing set in stone on that one, so we'll update accordingly.
