Got some interesting casting news for you this morning for three very different movies: Alex Proyas' GODS OF EGYPT, FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Pixar's FINDING DORY.
Let's start with GODS OF EGYPT. Deadline has learned Brenton Thwaites has signed on for a lead role in the film that also stars Gerard Butler, Geoffrey Rush and Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Thwaites will play a human thief named Bek who teams up with Coster-Waldeau's character to defeat Set (Butler), the ancient Egyptian god of the desert, storms, and foreigners. Brenton Thwaites has landed some excellent roles lately: he also star in the upcoming MALEFICENT with Angelina Jolie and THE GIVER with Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. No word yet on a release date for GODS OF EGYPT.
Deadline is also reporting Jennifer Ehle (ZERO DARK THIRTY, CONTAGION) has been cast in FIFTY SHADES OF GREY as Carla, Anastasia Steel's (Dakota Johnson) mother. The Sam Taylor-Johnson directed film stars Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey and it's apparently an adaptation of a popular book I've never heard of. Jennifer Ehle was also recently cast in the Phillip Martin heist film THE FORGER starring Anson Mount and Abigail Spencer. FIFTY SHADES OF GREY will be in theaters August 1st, 2014.
Total Film recently talked to the great Willem Dafoe and he confirmed he will return as the voice of the moorish idol Gil in Pixar's sequel to FINDING NEMO, FINDING DORY. Dafoe has already started work on the sequel, and of course says it's going to be better than the first.
“Yeah I’ve already started,” Dafoe says. “It’s even better than the first. It’s fantastic. It’s good to say I think it’s going to be better than the first; that’s good advertising!”
FINDING DORY is scheduled to hit theaters on June 17th, 2016.
