Another day, another clue about THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. This time in the form of a casting call for the sequel’s production as we get closer to filming. Based on previous stories that Joss Whedon would be creating a new origin for the robot bad guy combined with the lack of an Ant-Man appearance in the film led many to speculate just where Ultron would come from. Would he be alien in origin? Could it have something to do with Vision?
The answer, as everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to, comes back to Tony Stark. The following quote comes from Feature Films Casting who post casting notices from around the globe. This notice breaks down the general story for THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON and is open to those legally eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
In “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” Loki is gone and the new villain will be the evil robot Ultron, who has the ability to keep upgrading his own strength, making him extremely fearsome. Tony Stark/Iron Man becomes the unwitting creator of Ultron. The brother-and-sister team of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch become the seventh and eighth members of The Avengers. Quicksilver has extreme speed, while Scarlet Witch can cast spells and has telekinesis ability. Black Widow and Hawkeye will be key figures in the film.
So, there you have it. As I had previously predicted, Tony Stark will somehow create Ultron and be forced back into the armor he gave up at the conclusion of IRON MAN 3. This would allow for Ant-Man to be revealed in Edgar Wright‘s film. I am sure this will ruffle fan feathers, but I don’t have a real issue with it as Tony Stark has already been introduced as an inventor and now he will have motivation to be a hero again.
The same casting notice also indicates that Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been cast as Quicksilver and that Anthony Mackie will appear as Falcon. Scarlet Witch still shows as an open role. Hopefully we get a quick confirmation or denial from Marvel on this, but sounds like it is the real deal.
THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is slated to open May 1, 2015.
