Cast This: Two-Face

The cast of THE BATMAN is beginning to come together, with Robert Pattinson (THE LIGHTHOUSE) set to play the Dark Knight and Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) recently signing on to play Catwoman. Jeffrey Wright (NO TIME TO DIE) has been in talks to play Commissioner Gordon and Jonah Hill (THE BEACH BUM) is said to be up for the role of either Penguin or The Riddler. We still don't know all that much about THE BATMAN at this stage, but director Matt Reeves has teased that it will finally do justice to Batman's reputation of the World's Greatest Detective.

It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.

As Matt Reeves has previously teased that "there will be a rogues gallery" as you "can't have Batman without a villain," rumours have been flying regarding a variety of other Batman villains which the film could include, such as Two-Face. First appearing in Detective Comics #66 in 1942, Harvey Dent was once Gotham City's District Attorney before a mobster threw acid in his face. In addition to permanently scarring him, the attack drove Dent insane and caused him to become Two-Face, a criminal obsessed with the concept of duality who used a two-headed coin to make all his important choices. There have been several actors to play Two-Face on the big-screen, including Billy Dee Williams in BATMAN (although he only got to play the pre-disfigured version of the character), Tommy Lee Jones in BATMAN FOREVER, and Aaron Eckhart in THE DARK KNIGHT.

Now, who has what it takes to not only play the upstanding Harvey Dent, but also the unhinged Two-Face? I'll toss out a few suggestions to get you started. Jon Hamm (RICHARD JEWELL) has frequently been a popular choice to play Two-Face, and although some might say he may be a little too old for the cast Matt Reeves is assembling, I'd still love to see him take on the role. If we're shooting a little younger, I'd suggest Nicholas Hoult (DARK PHOENIX), who was actually in the running to play Batman before he lost out to Robert Pattinson, so it's clear that Reeves is already a fan. Might be a nice consolation prize. For my final choice, let's go with Oscar Isaac (STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER), who has certainly proven that he can handle suave and sinister.

Remember, you're free to suggest anyone in the comments, so let your inner casting director run wild!

Previously on Cast This, you were asked to fill the role of Kurt Barlow from the upcoming feature-film adaptation of Stephen King's "Salem's Lot." As usual, you came through with plenty of great suggestions, including David Tennant (Jessica Jones), Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery), and Ian McShane (American Gods).
