Out of all the remakes, reimaginings and reboots of classic movies these days, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one get you guys as riled up as Stephen Norrington’s proposed “revamping” of THE CROW. but like it or not, the script is allegedly done, and the studio wants to start casting.
So we can complain all we want about how this is a travesty against cinema, God and Brandon Lee, but the best thing we can hope for is that they cast a lead actor that can make a damn good go of it, and hopefully the script will be there to back him up as the new CROW.
This is one casting call that I honestly have no idea who could fill the role. In the original film, acting ability is second to being able to look terrifying and kick a whole lot of ass, so I would think we’re looking for a real martial artist, not just some actor they throw into a judo class for a month before shooting. Though I suppose with enough training, anyone can be taught to fight. I mean they made Malin Akerman into a badass for WATCHMEN for crying out loud, anything’s possible.
I know you all hate that this movie exists, but let’s try to find a silver lining by picking a Lee replacement that might actually make it worth watching. But moving on from roles we’d rather not recast, let’s move on to one that we’ve all been thinking about for years.
Last Week: BILBO BAGGINS
With THE HOBBIT’s timetable all laid out, it’s time to start thinking about who the titular role will go to in Guillermo del Toro’s vision of the film. And here’s who you guys picked to play original ring finder, Bilbo Baggins:
1. Martin Freeman (24%) 2. James McAvoy (13%) 3. Simon Pegg (7%)
I have to applaud you guys, your overwhelming #1 pick for the role, UK Office veteran Martin Freeman, is a stroke of genius. He looks the part perhaps more than anyone I’ve ever seen, and I think if given the right script and director, would make a great Bilbo. I knew James McAvoy would hit this list, and I think he’d be great (and a more likely pick for the studio), but I’d really like to see Freeman do it. And Pegg? Lord knows I love him in everything, and if you squint he could pass for a Hobbit, but I just don’t think this is the movie for him.
OK, time to start shouting out those Crow picks!
