Casey Affleck could’ve had a career much like his older brother; action movies, rom-coms and the occasional prestige project. Instead, the younger Affleck took a different road to stardom sticking with more dramatic, indie projects, exchewing larger commercial projects. But that’s all set to change as Affleck has signed on for his first romantic comedy, THE F-WORD.
Affleck, who recently directed the Joaquin Phoenix documentary I’M STILL HERE, would star in the Fox Searchlight film as a guy who falls for a female friend but can’t bring himself to admit his love to her for fear of losing her as a friend (the F-word of the title here being “friends” as in “let’s just be…”). Sound familiar? It’s a situation I’m pretty sure almost all guys have been in at one point or another in their lives. Yet it’s a phenomenon touched upon in a number of other TV shows and movies so it’ll be interesting to see how they present this movie with a fresh approach.
Alex Holdridge (IN SEARCH OF A MIDNIGHT KISS) will direct the movie based on a play by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi. Affleck can currently be seen in THE KILLER INSIDE ME with I’M STILL HERE set for release later this year.
