Jason Bateman might be heading for a thorough pat-down if he joins the cast of Jaume Collet-Serra’s new thriller Carry On. According to Deadline, the Ozark star is negotiating to star alongside Taron Egerton in the Netflix and Amblin film, with Collet-Serra directing.
Carry On revolves around Ethan Kopek (Egerton), a young TSA agent who gets blackmailed by a mysterious traveler to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight. Ho ho ho, boy! So much for the friendly skies, eh? Allowing a package like that to be loaded onto a crowded plane is a surefire way to get yourself onto Santa’s Naughty List. Please don’t do it, Ethan!
The nature of Bateman’s role is unconfirmed. However, Deadline hears that if and when he does sign on, Batemen could play the villainous traveler hoping to rope Kopek into his plot to give everyone the gift of bumpy skies for the holidays. Bateman and Netflix already have a bosom-buddy relationship thanks to Bateman’s chart-topping drama series Ozark. It makes sense that Netflix would have Bateman on speed dial for a juicy role like this.
Amblim’s president of production, Holly Bario, oversees the project, with Brian Williams executive producing through Dylan Clark Productions. Scott Greenberg and Seth William Meier also executive produce.
Both leading men in their own right, Egerton and Bateman could make for a dynamic duo when Carry On comes to Netflix. Since travel is more nightmarish than ever before, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, the idea of a mysterious package slipping through the cracks is all too real. I’m not sure that adding to people’s paranoia about air travel is a wise choice, but this is Hollywood, baby! Placing audiences in the heart of extreme situations is what it’s all about.
