Theatrical re-releases of John Carpenter's 1978 classic HALLOWEEN are an annual thing at this point, but this year is a special one for the film, since it marks the 40th anniversary of its initial release. To celebrate, Compass International Pictures and Trancas International Films are teaming with CineLife Entertainment, the event cinema division of Spotlight Cinema Networks, for a worldwide theatrical re-release of HALLOWEEN beginning on September 27th.
This re-release will bring a restored and remastered digital print of HALLOWEEN, created under the supervision of cinematographer Dean Cundey, to over 1000 screens in more than 20 countries around the globe.
Carpenter had this to say about the re-release:
I'm thrilled to have the original make its way back into theatres, as we prepare for the release of the sequel. Having both back in theatres this fall is remarkable."
Directed by Carpenter from a screenplay he wrote with Debra Hill, HALLOWEEN starred Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasence, Nick Castle, Nancy Loomis, P.J. Soles, Charles Cyphers, Kyle Richards, and Brian Andrews. The synopsis:
On a black and unholy Halloween night years ago, little Michael Myers brutally slaughtered his sister in cold blood. But for the last fifteen years, town residents have rested easy, knowing that he was safely locked away in a mental hospital — until tonight. Tonight, Michael returns to the same quiet neighborhood to relive his grisly murder again…and again…and again. For this is a night of evil. Tonight is Halloween!
