Zack Snyder is still working on his new cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE for HBO Max and it has made him reminisce about what could've been if he was still fully in the driver's seat of the DCEU. During a recent appearance on a live stream for a video interview with "The Nerd Queens" on YouTube, the director reveals who he would've chosen to play Catwoman if he had his way.
"Probably I would say Carla's Catwoman [is perfect]. You would have to say, there's a flashback to ten years ago, where they were a thing. And then he had to arrest her, I don't know what happened, or he had to let her go, and it tweaked him. And now, who knows what she's doing now, she's running some sort of international antiquities or something, and he needs to retire, and they find each other. Yeah, I do think Carla is — yeah, she is good."
Snyder went on to elaborate beyond Gugino being his pick to play his own version of Selina Kyle for the DCEU. He opened up how he would've included her in the story and suggested that Batman and Catwoman come together after a rocky history and years of separation. This would work for the older version of Bruce Wayne that we met in the DCEU when he was played by Ben Affleck. They're both age-appropriate to explore that kind of past and it could've made for some enticing tension if it was executed properly.
I also have to say I wouldn't mind Gugino in the role. She certainly has the look and the femme fatale appeals so I think she could definitely pull it off. Many actresses have played Catwoman from Julie Newmar to Michelle Pfeiffer to Anne Hathaway and they have all brought something different and unique to the role that makes it stand out (maybe not Halle Berry, but I digress). The character will be seen again on the big screen in Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN, played by Zoe Kravitz, another unique choice to should prove interesting to watch when the film is released.
Carla Gugino isn't exactly hurting for work at the moment and isn't likely clamoring to play Catwoman but she may be flattered to hear that Snyder could see her in the role. The actress has been starring in the acclaimed Netflix horror series The Haunting of Hill House and she returned to play a new character in the follow-up series, The Haunting of Bly Manor. She'll be seen next on the big screen in the upcoming female assassin thriller GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE alongside Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, and Angela Bassett.
Do YOU think Carla Gugino would be a good Catwoman?
