Richard Linklater stands as one of our generations most beloved filmmakers, in large part because he put out consistently great work that manages to always be sweet, funny and enlightening as they manage to get to the root of the human soul. Linklater has a new film coming out this year that hopes to join the ranks of his other films, including DAZED AND CONFUSED, the BEFORE series, BOYHOOD and last year’s EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!. The first trailer debuted, and what we can surely expect is a bevy of fine performances from Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell and Laurence Fishburne.
I'm a huge fan of Linklater's work and I have little reason to think this won't stack up with his other work. All three actors look to be giving grade-A performances, with Carell, in particular, delivering subtle, powerful work. The movie is hoping to gain some Oscar buzz with its leads and director bringing a lot to the table, but I think with a movie like this I'd say the best bet is on the acting and screenplay (from Linklater and the author of the book, Darryl Ponicsan).
LAST FLAG FLYING premieres at the New York Film Festival September 28, and hits theaters November 3.
