Earlier today the tickets for CAPTAIN MARVEL went on sale, exactly two months before the early screenings for Marvel’s latest superhero outing. On top of celebrating the occasion with several colorful, new posters, Marvel Studios has released an action-packed new look, featuring plenty of spectacle, the title hero (Brie Larson), and that digitally de-aged Samuel L. Jackson. He really does look fantastic for his age.

The previous trailers were all about setting up the scenario, teasing Carol Danvers’ story of remembering her human past and reconciling it with her new, alien life – which has also granted her incredible superpowers. This time around we see her laying down the tale to Jackson’s Nick Fury, telling him all about the Skrulls and proving to him she’s not one of them by blasting a jukebox with a very casual photon blast from her fist (Fonzie used a similar trick on HAPPY DAYS, if I’m not mistaken). The end result is a trailer that shows a lot more footage than what we’ve previously seen, also showing off Jude Law’s character, Larson in total action hero mode, and of course, more of the train fight between her and the old lady/Skrull in disguise.
What I get from this trailer more than others is seeing more of Danvers in command of certain situations, refusing to back down and throwing herself into the fray. This behavior echoes what Larson said about the character last summer, saying her dual nature of human and Kree are what make her strong-willed and flawed.
You have this Kree part of her that’s unemotional, that is an amazing fighter and competitive. Then there’s this human part of her that is flawed but is also the thing that she ends up leading by. It’s the thing that gets her in trouble, but it’s also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her… Just seeing a character who says how she feels and says what’s on her mind and doesn’t let people stand in her way is incredibly empowering.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, CAPTAIN MARVEL also stars Clark Gregg, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Gemma Chan, Lashana Lynch, Lee Pace and Annette Bening and hits theaters March 8, and tickets are on sale now.
